Speaking at the official opening today of the Catholic Media Office's new radio studio, President of the National Communications Commission, Bishop Joseph Devine said;

"This is a tremendous facility, allowing contact to be made with broadcasters around Scotland and anywhere in the world. It is crucially important that the message of the church makes it on to the secular airwaves, this studio, together with others proposed for elsewhere in Scotland form part of an ongoing effort by the church nationally to focus its communications efforts and maximise their impact."

Joining Bishop
Devine at the launch, Media Office Director, Peter Kearney added;

"Thanks to ISDN technology, the equipment we now have in the Media Office allows direct broadcast-quality links to be made with television and radio stations anywhere in the world. We are currently informing broadcasters of the facilities available in an attempt to give the Catholic Church in Scotland a national and international voice."

Note:
The soundproofed studio is situated at the Catholic Media Office in Glasgow, programmes and interviews can be sent over an ISDN line using a "Codec Mixer". A portable minidisc recorder will also be used to gather interviews and comment which can then be sent over the network. As well as establishing contact with local and national radio stations, Peter Kearney
also visited the studios of Vatican Radio in Rome recently to establish formal links with the producers and staff of the English language service.
