Bishop Logan welcomes Pope Benedict XVI

Following the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI, Bishop Vincent Logan of Dunkeld, said,

I welcome the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI.
I have met the new Pope on several occasions during visits to the Vatican with my fellow Scottish bishops.
He is an outstanding theologian and a man of great intellect. Like Pope John Paul II, he is a first-class communicator, speaking several languages fluently.

He has tremendous experience of the Vatican and the Papacy, having been a close collaborator over the last 20 years with Pope John Paul II.
The Holy Father will, I m sure, take forward the great achievements of his predecessor, but he is very much his own man and will inevitably put his stamp on the Church and the world.
