Reacting to the news that Dr Alison Elliot is to be Moderator-Designate of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Cardinal Keith O'Brien said today:

"I am delighted to hear that Dr Alison Elliot will be Moderator-designate of the Church of Scotland's General Assembly. She is a dedicated and thoughtful Christian with many insights to offer and I look forward to working with her in the year ahead."

He added

"I have know Allison for many years and worked with her in ACTS, Scotland's ecumenical body where I have been greatly impressed by her commitment to Christian unity. The warmth of our friendship was reflected in the fact that only last week Alison and her husband Jo joined me in Rome to celebrate my elevation to the College of Cardinals. I was honoured that they chose to celebrate with me then and I join now with many others in Scotland's catholic community in celebrating this good news with them."
