The Right Reverend Joseph Devine, Bishop of Motherwell and President of the National Communications Commission, to-day welcomed the appointment of Peter Kearney to the post of Director of the National Media Office.

Bishop Devine said Acting on the advice of the former Media Officer, the late Monsignor Tom Connelly, the Bishops Conference agreed that such a crucial and important role should be filled by a lay person and full time Media Officer,and I welcome Mr Kearney s appointment .

Mr Kearney will take up his post from to-day Monday 2nd July and will be based at the Media Office, 5, St Vincent Place, Glasgow.

Mr Kearney, a graduate of Glasgow University, is aged 38 and married with three children. He is currently Convenor of the Archdiocese of Glasgow Social Communications Commission.  

He commented “

I am delighted to be able to take on the role of Media Director for the Church in Scotland. In the challenging and changing world of communications, it is crucial that the Church is actively engaged in promoting and using the media in all its forms .
