Memorial Mass for Victims of Madrid massacre

A mass will be said at 12 noon on Saturday 20th March in St. Mary s Cathedral, Huntly Street, Aberdeen, to commemorate the deaths of those who lost their lives to terrorist bombs in Madrid last week.

The Very Rev. Andrew Mann, V.G. of Aberdeen Diocese, assisted by the Rev. Keith Herrera, will say the Mass in Spanish. Fr. Mann was a student at the Royal Scottish College in Valladolid and Fr. Herrera was a student when the college moved to its present location in Salamanca. Recently appointed Bishop Peter Moran will preside. He too has Spanish connections with a sister who lives in Madrid and a nephew who commutes on a daily basis to University in that city.
The service will be attended by Spanish workers who are employed by oil giant BP in Aberdeen.
Fr Mann said Having spent over 5 years as a student in Spain and attended a number of student ceremonies in the capital I can readily sympathize with those who have suffered and welcome the opportunity to show solidarity with those who speak out against such a waste of innocent lives. He will preach a homily in Spanish.
