At the University of St Andrews, on Saturday 13th March 2004, the Catholic Church in Scotland will join in the Church's Day of Prayer for European Universities. Bishop Joseph Devine on behalf of the Scottish Bishops
will receive from an Irish delegation the Sedes Sapientiae World Universities' Icon.

At the close of the Jubilee Year, the Holy Father commissioned this icon from the Slovenian artist, Marko Ivan Rupnik, who also redesigned the Pope's private chapel. The Pope has asked that the University communities to: "constantly fix our gaze upon her, Seat of Wisdom, who continues to communicate to the Church and to humanity the words and events of salvation, cherished in her heart go in peace and journey under her guidance".

Already the Icon has travelled to Greece, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Slovakia and Ireland. We will pass it on to the English Church at a ceremony in Oxford in October. Thereafter it will travel to Belgium.

The ceremony at the University of St Andrews is scheduled to take place in the University Chapel of Saint Salvator and its theme will be one of Prayer for the World Universities.

All are welcome to attend this event.
