Theme: 'THE CONTRIBUTION OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION TO SCOTTISH SOCIETY IN THE 21st CENTURY.'  
Conference Aims: To identify the major issues raised in the National Debate on Education ; to shape the response of the Catholic Education Commission to the National Debate.  


Morning Session  
Chairman (a.m.) ­ Bishop Joseph Devine , President of the Catholic Education Commission.

Welcome ­ Tony Gavin, Headteacher, St. Margaret's Academy.  
Opening prayer and Introductory remarks - Archbishop Keith O'Brien, President of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland.  

10.15a.m. ­ 11.00a.m.  
Keynote Address ­ Professor Patrick Reilly, Professor Emeritus of English Literature at Glasgow University ­ "The role of Catholic education in Scottish society to-day."  
11.00a.m.- 12.30p.m.  
"Profiles of Catholic Schools"  
Presentations by pupils, parents and teachers from 4 Catholic schools ­  

St. Mary's R.C. Primary School, Cleland;  
St. John's R.C. Primary School, Barrhead;  
Holy Rood High School Edinburgh:  
St. Ninian's High School, Kirkintilloch.  

12.30p.m. ­ 1.30p.m. LUNCH.  


Afternoon Session  
Chairman (p.m.) ­ Michael McGrath, Vice- Chairman of the Catholic Education Commission.  
1.30p.m. ­ 1.45p.m. Briefing for Discussion Groups - Identification of major issues raised in the National Debate on Education.  
1.45p.m. ­ 2.30p.m. Discussion Groups ­ Providing responses to the major issues raised in the National Debate on Education ­  
Each group is expected to bring 2 KEY STATEMENTS to the General Forum.  
3.30p.m. Concluding remarks and closing prayer ­ Archbishop Mario Conti, Archbishop of Glasgow.
