Urgent Accreditation Information  
From the Pontifical Council for Social Communications

We are sending you this general e-mail message which contains important information and guidelines regarding audiovisual accreditations for film crews and photographers coming to the Vatican for the October celebrations of the beatification of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the 25th anniversary of the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II and the creation of new cardinals. Our Pontifical Council for Social Communications is the Vatican office which has as one its duties the issuance of permissions or accreditations for audio-visual coverage of ceremonies or visits taking place in the Vatican and its extraterritorial properties.  

Information on the Celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the Election of Pope John Paul II, the Beatification of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and the creation of new cardinals: October 14-21, 2003

Given the extraordinary number of audio-visual requests we cannot allow special visits for videotaping or photographing inside Vatican City during this time.  

October 9, 2003, is the deadline for audiovisual accreditation applications for TV crews and still photographers covering the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II, the Beatification of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and the creation of new cardinals. If you have not already applied for accreditation, please do so now by completing the form at the following web address: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/pccs/av-pccs/form.htm?Form=Accreditation+Form

You will receive a response from us only if there are problems or questions regarding your request. Also, please note that a maximum of four people may apply for accreditation with each TV crew given the limited space available and for security reasons.  

If you have difficulties using the web form, please fax (+39 06 698 85373) or e-mail (av@pccs.va) a written request from the TV organization or photo agency along with the name(s) and title(s) of the people requiring accreditation, and a photocopy of each person ¹s passport.  

One accreditation badge valid for all the events will be issued. You may pick up your badge at the following address and times. Please bring your passport as proof of identity:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT RULES FOR PAPAL CEREMONIES: (Attached to this e-mail message is a photo indicating the areas described  
below)  

Before the Ceremony:  
- All accredited TV crews and photographers (each with a yellow or permanent  
badge) are permitted to photograph or videotape in Saint Peter ¹s Square up to 20 minutes before the Pope ¹s arrival. Stand-ups and interviews are also allowed. The photo below indicates the area of St. Peter ¹s Square where all this is possible.  
- 20 minutes before the Pope ¹s arrival everyone must go to the left colonnade (when facing Saint Peter ¹s Basilica) to proceed up to the roof terrace of the "Braccio di Carlo Magno" (also indicated on attached photo).  

During the Ceremony:  
- No interviews or stand-ups are allowed in and around Saint Peter ¹s Square so as not to disturb the celebration.  
- A small group or pool of still photographers (each wearing a red card  
badge) are authorized to stay in Saint Peter ¹s Square for the first few minutes of the ceremony. Afterwards, they must join the others at the Braccio di Carlo Magno rooftop terrace.  
- Photographing, videotaping and stand-ups are allowed in the indicated areas of the Braccio di Carlo Magno rooftop terrace.  

After the Ceremony:  
- Photographing, videotaping and stand-ups are allowed outside Saint Peter ¹s Square in the Via della Conciliazione area (indicated on photo below).  

General:  
All are requested to dress appropriately for the event (dark suit and necktie for men, dark dress or suit for women).
