2. TIMETABLE OF EVENTS  

Monday 20 October:  
16.30 Mass for Scottish travellers in central Rome at Santa Maria in Traspontina Via della Conciliazione Photo opportunity as Scottish contingent arrive in Via della Conciliazione with banners, piper, etc.  

18:15 Press conference with Cardinal-elect O'Brien (Details above)  

Tuesday 21 October:  
10:30 Open air liturgy with the Pope at the outside altar steps of the Vatican Basililca (St. Peter's Square) at which new Cardinals will each receive their red biretta (hat).The new Cardinals will make their way to the Chapel of Saint Sebastian in the Vatican Basilica by 10.00 (by the entrance of Saint Martha), accompanied by their own Secretary. They will be dressed in full red soutane with a red fascia, rochet, mozetta and pectoral cross borne on a red/gold cord. The creation of new Cardinals by the imposition of the red biretta and the assignation of the Cardinal ¹s proper Title or as new Cardinal Deacons will take place during the course of a Celebration of the Word which will begin at 10,30 at the outside altar on the steps of the Vatican Basilica.  

15:30 Mass for all Scottish travellers, celebrated by Archbishop Mario Conti in central Rome (Santo Spirito in Sassia, Borgo Santo Spirito) (press access available)  

16:30 - 18:30 New Cardinals available within the Vatican in separate halls (venue TBA) for the reception of guests (press access available) The Cardinals will wear full red soutane with red fascia and pectoral cross with red/gold cord as before.  

Wednesday 22 October:  
10:30 'Mass of the Rings' will take place at the outside altar steps of the Vatican Basililca (St. Peter's Square) at which new Cardinals will each receive their Cardinalatial Ring from the Pope. (press access available)  

The new Cardinals will assemble near the Chapel of Saint Sebastian by 10:00 in full red soutane, rochet, mozetta and pectoral cross as before, but without wearing their Episcopal ring. Near the same Chapel they will find all the vestments necessary for the celebration of the Mass together with the cardinalatial damask mitre.  

The Eucharistic Celebration, during the course of which the Holy Father will confer the Cardinalatial ring, will take place at the outside altar on the steps of the Vatican Basilica, beginning at 10:30.  

18:30 Reception for Scottish travellers at Scots College, preceded by press conference at Scots College with Cardinal O'Brien.(press access available)  

Thursday 23 October:  
10:30 Audience for new Cardinals and supporters with the Pope in the Pope Paul VI Audience Hall. (press access available)  

16:00 Mass celebrated by Cardinal O'Brien in central Rome (Santa Maria in Traspontina Via della Conciliazione) for Scottish travellers (press access available)
