Statement from Bishop Joseph Devine following the fire at Rose Park Care Home

"It was with great sadness, that I learned of the fire and tragic deaths at the Rose Park Care Home in Viewpark. I offer to the relatives and friends of all those who died and to the entire community my deepest condolences and the promise of my prayers.

The Balmer family who owned the home are well known to me and my thoughts are also with them at this traumatic time. The high standard of care they provided will make this incident all the more devastating for them.

I will join the parish community of St. Columba's, Viewpark tomorrow morning (Sunday 1 February) to celebrate the 10.45am Mass with them and offer whatever support I can to them."

Bishop Joseph Devine is Bishop of Motherwell.
