Cardinal O'Brien announces new Rector for Pontifical Scots College in Rome.

Speaking from the Scots College in Rome, Cardinal Keith O'Brien today announced that Fr. Philip Tartaglia would be the new college rector.

Speaking to the college community he said;
"It gives me great pleasure to advise you that the Congregation for Catholic Education have appointed Fr. Philip Tartaglia on the advice of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland as your new rector. I have know Fr. Tartaglia for many years and recall his hospitality to me when he was rector of Chester's College in Bearsden. I wish him every success in this new endeavour."

He added;
"At the same time and on behalf of the Bishops' Conference and the staff and students here in Rome I thank Mgr. Chris McElroy for his distinguished record of service as rector. I thank him especially for his efforts in bringing to fruition the formal opening last October of the magnificent new college library and for his work in connection with the 400th Anniversay celebrations in 2000,"

Responding to the announcement, Fr. Tartaglia said;
"I am conscious of the honour it is to be appointed Rector of the Scots College in Rome and of the responsibility that goes with it. I am grateful to the Scottish Bishops for their trust in me. I hope and pray that I can make a worthwhile contribution to the priestly formation of our seminarians in Rome."
