At their meeting in Scotus College this week, the Bishops' Conference of Scotland announced the creation of a new National Commission "Priests for Scotland" which will replace the existing "National Vocations Commission" and the "Priestly Formation Commission".

Speaking after the meeting, the President of the new commission, Bishop Vincent Logan said;

"I am delighted that the Bishops have endorsed this new commission which will direct and oversee all aspects of priestly formation from vocations to ordination and beyond. I hope that the support, training and ongoing formation we provide to our priests in Scotland will be of the highest standard."

Bishop Logan also announced that the new commission would have as its first Director Fr. Andrew McKenzie currently Pastoral Director at Scotus College, commenting on the appointment, he said;

"In Fr. Andrew McKenzie we have a dedicated and hard working priest who is mindful of the need to foster and support vocations and at the same time provide opportunities to our priests for continuing development and ongoing formation, I welcome him to this new and challenging role and at the same time I thank our outgoing National Vocations Directors for all their work."

Reacting to his appointment. Fr. Andrew said;

"I am prepared and willing to accept the new challenges that this role will present, I am very grateful to all those who have been active in the various areas that this new post will bring together. In partnership with our seminaries, this new structure will allow the church in Scotland to promote a coherent and continuous approach to all those in priestly ministry."
