Cardinal O'Brien's tribute to Brother Roger.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien, President of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland has added his voice to those from around the world mourning the death of Brother Roger, the 90-year-old founder of the Taize religious community in France. Speaking from Cologne, where he is leading a delegation of over 400 young Scots participating in World Youth Day, he said;

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the violent death of Brother Roger last night. Throughout his life he emphasised how important it was that all Christians come together in peace, love and reconciliation - this legacy of love will long be remembered."

Cardinal O'Brien added;

"Brother Roger joined Christians from around the world when he attended the funeral of Pope John Paul II earlier this year, those of us attending the World Youth Day here in Cologne now join in spirit and in prayer with the Taize community. As they come to terms with their loss we offer them the promise of our prayers for the repose of his soul."
